One Item, Six Different Styles- The Maxi Skirt

Maxi Skirt

Welcome back, RYN friends! As the back-to-school season kicks into full gear, many of us are looking to reinvent our style. Instead of heading straight to the mall, consider reimagining your current wardrobe. This week we are continuing our series on upcycling and elevating classics with the timeless maxi skirt. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to maxi skirts – they come in many different materials, lengths, colors, and fits. Whether they are satin and fitted or floral and flowy you can style them many ways!  Below are six different ways that you can style your maxi skirts with other pieces you most likely already own.

1. Style with a blouse

Whether the blouse is loose or fitted, long-sleeve or short-sleeve, dress up your maxi skirt with a statement blouse. Make it trendy and pair it with a loose statement belt and layered necklaces. If the bottom of the blouse is loose around the waist, tuck in either one side or the whole shirt to make it look more put-together by giving it that slim structured focal point.

2. Make it casual with a graphic tee

Do you have a bunch of graphic tees that never see the light of day? Elevate your graphic tee by pairing it with a complementary maxi skirt – both oversized tees and baby tees pair well with a maxi skirt, each giving off a different vibe.

3. Dress it up with a vest or corset

Whether denim, linen, or cotton a vest pairs perfectly with many types of maxi skirts. On colder days layer it with a long sleeve underneath. Dress it up with some cowboy boots for a country concert or pair it with some sneakers for a day on the town.

4. Look cute and cool with sneakers

Feel comfy and chic by pairing your skirt with some dainty sneakers. If you can style it with a pair of colorful sneakers that tie into the top or an accessory, you'll look extra put-together and stylish. You can style the sneakers and skirt with just about any top-- a tank, tee, vest, blouse, sweater, etc. Don't forget to accessorize with some jewelry and sunglasses.

5. Layer with a blazer

Want to be cute and business casual? Throw on a blazer over a basic top for a business meeting or just when you want to feel cute at the office. Go straight from work to a night out by wearing the blazer by itself with one button done for an elevated night-out look.

6. Make it cozy with a sweater or cardigan

Layer the basic tee or tank with a cardigan or sweater for the fall and winter seasons. The key to this look is mixing textures. If the skirt is satin, it will pair well with any ribbed or textured sweater. If the skirt has texture to it, opt for a more smooth sweater. Accessorize with a chunky scarf or hat on colder days.
